Appointments & Homevisits

Booking Routine (Non Urgent) Appointments

Routine appointments can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance.  Appointments are available every morning and afternoon with Doctors and Nurses.  Doctors offer some evening surgeries to 7.30pm.

Each routine appointment with the Doctor are booked as ten minutes slots, however, if you think you need a longer appointment to discuss complex matters, mention this to the Receptionist who may be able to book you a double appointment.

Same Day Appointments

We do offer a same day appointment service with some Doctors that allow you to book an appointment on the same day.

These are available for our morning session and afternoon session. These appointments can be booked up quite quickly so ring at 8:00am for a same day morning appointment and 1:00pm for a same day afternoon appointment.

Booking Urgent Appointments

If you need to be seen urgently (that day), we ask that you telephone us as early as possible so that the Receptionists can try their best to get you an appointment with either the Nurse Practitioner or the Doctor.

If there are no same day appointments left, you will be asked to come at the end of the session (morning or afternoon) and wait to be seen by the next available doctor.

Our emergency appointments SHOULD NOT be used for reasons such as repeat medication requests, routine medical reviews or fit note renewals.

Telephone Advice

A Doctor may need to speak to you regarding a test result or recent medication that you have been issued within the last 7 days.

Please phone before 10.30 am and leave an obtainable number for the Doctor to return the call. If you have a query regarding a recent referral for yourself, you may speak with our Secretary on 01384 322422, OPTION 3.

Unfortunately, due to the increasing high demand for Doctor appointments, we cannot provide ‘telephone consultations’ with our Doctors.  If you feel you need to discuss your medical issue in more detail, you MUST book an appointment with your Doctor.

Nurse Practitioner Appointments

Same day appointments are available with our Nurse Practitioner every morning for any minor illnesses. Sister Lisa Millar is a Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Prescriber and is qualified to assess, treat and prescribe for minor conditions.

Sister Millar is also our COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), and Asthma Nurse.

Cancelling Appointments

Please let us know by telephone, email or text message if you are unable to attend, or no longer require, an appointment that you have booked. This will give the opportunity to someone else to use this appointment.

Did not Attend (DNA) Policy

If you do not attend a booked appointment without letting us know, you will receive a letter from us reminding you of our policy. If you DNA 3 times within a 12 month period you may be removed from the practice list and will have to find an alternative General Practitioner.

Home Visits for housebound patients

The Doctors do offer a home visiting service for patients who are housebound or genuinely too ill to attend the surgery.

If you would like to request a home visit contact the surgery before 10.30 am. The Receptionist will ask for a contact telephone number, as the Doctor may often wish to telephone before visiting.  It is not possible to promise which Doctor will do which home visit, although you may ask for a particular Doctor, and  we will attempt to comply, if this is possible.

We will endeavour to make home visits between morning and afternoon surgeries.

    Named GP for every patient
Every patient in our practice has a named/usual GP who will be accountable for their care, although patients have the choice to see different doctors.

    Mobile Numbers
Please check we have your mobile numbers on record so we can send you appointment reminders. You can also use the service to cancel your appointments.

    Pharmacy First
Your local Pharmacy can give you help and advice about your health and well-being. Minor conditions can often be dealt with by a pharmacist without a prescription and without the need to see a doctor. They may be able to advise you on the most suitable treatment, which may include an over-the-counter medicine.

    Electronic Prescriptions
Your prescriptions can now be sent electronically from the surgery to your nominated pharmacy.

This means you will not have to make a return journey to the surgery to collect your paper repeat prescription. Simply order your prescription in the usual way. Your medication will be ready for collection from the pharmacy usually within 2-3 working days.

Speak to a member off staff at the surgery or a pharmacy.
